The Metro Jackson Alcorn Alumni Chapter is involved with three community projects which are the Book Buddy at Raines Elementary, Community Nursing Home and the Ronald McDonald House.
Raines Elementary
The Book Buddy program is on a volunteer basis. Calola Williams volunteered for this program several years ago, and has gotten others to volunteer by reading to students when their schedules permit and donating school supplies the beginning of each school year.
Community Nursing Home
The Young Alcornite Committee chose the Community Nursing Home, which is a 60 bed facility, located on Langley Avenue in Jackson. The Young Alcornites work closely with the nursing home coordinator Katherine Crook, to provide activities for the residents. Some of those activities include bingo, movie night, and cooking classes. They also donate necessary toiletries and provide goodies to the residents during holidays, which include Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
